Roland Turner

Director of Human Resources,
Professional Development and Fiscal Operations

Roland is a Director with the Auditor of Public Accounts in charge of all fiscal, human resource and professional development functions.

He has been with the Office since 1984, beginning his tenure as an Auditor in Roanoke for three years before relocating to Richmond as a Supervisor.  Later, he became the Director of Human Resources, Professional Development and Fiscal Operations, a position he still holds.

Roland took a non-traditional route to the APA.  He earned a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Education from Virginia Tech and Radford University, respectively.  He subsequently taught and coached in the Roanoke County School System for eight years.  Roland returned to Virginia Tech in 1982 for post-graduate work in Accounting that led him to the APA and becoming a CPA.

Roland lives in Richmond with his wife and their black lab, Lucy.  They have two grown children:  a daughter, a 1997 graduate of UVA, and a son, a 2002 graduate of Virginia Tech.

Roland’s professional memberships include the American Institute of CPAs, the Virginia Society for CPAs, Society for Human Resource Management and he serves on the National State Auditors Association's Human Resources Committee.  He has taught accounting courses on an adjunct basis at the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

His hobbies include attending Hokie football games, the ACC Basketball Tournament, and enjoying the beach and the mountains with family and friends.
