Roland Turner

Director of Human Resources and Central Operations

Roland is a Director with the Auditor of Public Accounts in charge of all administrative functions. He has been with the Office since 1984, beginning his tenure as an Auditor in Roanoke for three years before relocating to Richmond as the Supervisor of Quality Control (for local government audits).  Two years later, he became the Director of Human Resources and Fiscal Operations.

Roland took a non-traditional route to the APA.  He earned a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Education from Virginia Tech and Radford University, respectively.  He subsequently taught and coached in the Roanoke County School System for eight years.  Roland returned to Virginia Tech in 1982 for post-graduate work in Accounting that led him to the APA and becoming a CPA.

Roland lives in the Manakin area of Goochland County with his wife and their black lab, Lucy.  They have two grown children:  a daughter, a 1997 graduate of UVA, and a son, a 2002 graduate of Virginia Tech. They have also been blessed with three grandchildren.

Roland’s professional memberships include the American Institute of CPAs, the Virginia Society for CPAs, Society for Human Resource Management and he serves on the National State Auditors Association's Human Resources Committee.  He has taught accounting courses on an adjunct basis at the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

His hobbies include playing golf, attending Hokie football games and the ACC Basketball Tournament, vacationing at the beach and the mountains with family and friends, and just grilling out on his deck at home.
