Outside of Work

On the lighter side, the APA also offers avenues for participation in a variety of after hours and weekend events designed to enhance team unity and build camaraderie. Two of these events aimed at demonstrating staff appreciation are the annual holiday party and summer picnic. The holiday party provides staff and their guests a chance to celebrate the completion of another good year in a festive atmosphere. An abundance of food, dancing, and fun is had by all as colleagues rejoice in the holiday spirit. The summer picnic is an opportunity for the entire family to enjoy good food and the outdoors while participating in fun-filled games such as the egg and water balloon toss, volleyball, three legged and sack races, and tug-of-war.

A social committee is responsible for coordinating these special events. The committees’ objectives are to help improve the quality of life of the staff by coordinating efforts for recreational, social, civic, charitable, and any other activity suggested by the staff. Some of these events include getting groups together for ice skating, bowling, white water rafting, snow skiing, Braves games at the Diamond, trips to the beach, Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens, and even an adventurous game of laser tag! Both staff and family participation are encouraged. The APA also offers an outlet for our sports enthusiasts. Some of the state sponsored athletic events include softball, volleyball, beach volleyball, bowling, golf, and tennis.

As you can see, things are definitely not stagnant at the APA. So if you enjoy being a team player, sharing rewards of your hard work with others and, most of all, striking a balance between your personal and professional life, then the APA may be the place for you!
