Job Description

The Auditor of Public Accounts, legislative external auditor for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s executive and judicial branches, seeks an Audit Director to lead a team of innovative auditors. The successful applicant must possess strong leadership skills; proven project management skills; analytical skills; the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently; and have excellent verbal and written communication skills..


To manage this team, the candidate should demonstrate technical skills, which include:

  • experience in the development of a multi-agency, risk-based audit approach

  • an understanding of both qualitative and quantitative audit risk factors

  • the ability to identify statewide risks and opportunities

  • proficiency in evaluating entities for proper internal controls

Preferred Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting or a related field is required. The candidate must have an active Virginia CPA license. Advanced degree(s) and/or additional relevant certifications are also preferred.
